Elenore - Chapter One

Elenore would spend at least 8 hours of her day staring at the chess board. After celebrating her high school graduation Elenore had plenty of time to focus on her passion. She would sit on one end of the living room while Theon stood at the other painting. Meanwhile Vallari stayed busy with her music career. As long as she had fans she saw no reason to retire.
“We need to talk honey,” Theon started awkwardly.
“Sure,” Elenore responded sitting next to him on the couch.
“Is this about me getting a job?” Elenore started.
“No…Well, I mean that wouldn’t be a bad thing…” Theon stammered, “but that’s no why I wanted to talk. I’m worried about you.”
“I’m fine Dad,” Elenore smiled ready to stand up.
“Wait,” Theon continued, “I just want to make sure you’re happy.”
“I am.”
“Ok, good.” Theon said nervously. He couldn’t fault Elenore for being so passionate about one thing, but he still worried that she was missing out.
Against her better judgement, Elenore decided that she may as well take a night off from chess and called her old friend JC to meet her at the local dance club. If nothing else, at least her parents would get off her back about leaving the house.
She did have to admit that having a night off was a lot of fun.
Yet, she was still conflicted. She didn’t like taking focus off her passion, but did she really want to have her parent’s future on the other hand? Their lives seemed so one-dimensional. Would it be possible for her to still accomplish her lifetime goal and have a social life?
